The Future of Information is Digital

As our world keeps moving toward the future so does the way we read, or search for text and information. The internet has made it possible for us to search or read the text that we want with just a click of a button from our computer or other devices like amazon kindle. A decade ago, if you wanted to do research on particular subject it was time consuming, but now with everything online that information can be searched in a short amount of time. With the availability of digital libraries, we can access this text or information anytime and anyplace as we want.

The digital library is definitely the future for  information because it's not just text or documents that are available, but also audio, video, or photograph can be accessed or downloaded instantly. Today, almost everyone has access to the internet which means all the information or text that we need can be reached within seconds. Another positive about digital libraries is that it can eliminate the space needed to store all the physical books, audio, or video.

Creating and producing digital libraries is challenging, and costly. It requires large amounts of data to be stored. It also requires a scanner to copy and transfer text and documents to digital form.  Digital libraries also need to be in standard format in order operate smoothly. With all the available technology we have, and funds from the government, making it available and free for all will definitely benefit us all.

Have you heard of  bookmobile?
Bookmobile is  a place where you can download books at a very low cost. It is set up in a car, van, or truck with satellite internet which is needed to access content online. In addition, not only can you download books, you can also download music, and video!

  1. I totally agree about digital libraries. I think they are the up and coming thing for this era. Especially for college students and professionals with limited time. Almost everyone has access to the internet therefore you would have access to the digital library. They would be so convenient.

  2. In your blog you say that you think it is very costly to convert books to digital libraries, do you think that in the end the cost of not making physical books with outway that cost of coverting?

  3. I didn't think they would need to scan anything, that it was already in a digital format and all they had to do was re-format it. Thanks for teaching me something new about digital libraries. I've never heard of a bookmobile. It sounds like a good business model.

  4. Scanning books themselves seems way too costly to me, transferring all books into digital media is a hard job within itself without even factoring in the cost. It is a great idea however because with the inventions of smartphones, IPads, kindles, etc. it is much easier to access literally anything on the internet.

  5. From your understanding about the different costs of digital books verses physical books, at the end of the day what will be more convenient and cost effective?

  6. Personally, I don't like reading books that have been scanned. If I'm going to read a digital book, I'd rather it has been translated into typed text. If this was the way all digital libraries operated, then I wouldn't have nearly as much of a problem with them.

  7. I agree with you on the time issue of physical libraries vs digital ones. But as far as the cost, I would think overall, the physical library takes way more money and effort to build and keep up than a digital one.

  8. I agree with you. Digital library is the future for information; but as it is becoming the future, it is becoming more expensive.

  9. I remember growing up having to learn the catalog system in the libraries. Having to go through multiple steps in order to find a book. Now its just seconds and available at your fingertips. I love how technology is helping us become more efficient with time.

  10. Digital libraries are the future, you're right about that. It makes it easier for the student to find the information they need, which is extremely important know a days because most students don't fall under that category of "traditional Student".
